SCOTT PFEIFFER - FOUNDER/CEO/PRESIDENT
Scott’s journey to becoming one of the most respected and accomplished custom homebuilders in the Valley started from a summer job as a framing carpenter during his college years. Upon graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Finance, he was hired as a Superintendent with U.S. Home and enjoyed a successful tenure at the company. He proceeded to take a Project Management position at Desert Winds Development and was quickly promoted to Vice President, becoming the driving force behind the company’s emergence as a top custom homebuilder in Paradise Valley during the 1990’s. During this time he honed his skills and ability to create a superior custom home in a timely manner while respecting the client’s budgets and needs.
Scott founded Sonora West Development in 2001. Since Sonora West's inception, the company has successfully completed over 150 custom home projects in the most desirable and exclusive communities in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and throughout the entire Phoenix area. His unwavering commitment to superb craftsmanship, superior design, and outstanding customer service has earned him and Sonora West the reputation as Master Builder.

“We first visited our Sonora West home during an open house and it was love at first sight. The Cape Cod style with its classic details, amazing kitchen (and I mean amazing) and those gleaming wood floors were right out of a design magazine. Coming from the East Coast, this classic style spoke to me. The natural light streaming through the mullioned windows was magical. The kids were already running through the house picking their rooms.
The Master bathroom was better than the Ritz and my husband and I were smitten. This small town girl could never have imagined that I would call a property like this, my home. My husband was all dollars and cents about it, but I was already deciding where to put the Christmas tree!
After move-in we settled down to family life and getting to know our neighbors and new community. There were lemonade stands, playing catch in the front yard, and my husband teaching the kids how to slide into home plate on those smooth wood floors.
Entertaining our friends throughout the year and hosting our neighborhood progressive dinner gave us opportunities to share our home with others. Tree trimming, sipping hot chocolate and watching holiday movies with the kids became family traditions.
One Saturday a note was placed in our mailbox from a Phoenix location scout stating that our home and front yard would be a perfect backdrop for a Claritin Allergy commercial and to give her a call. She said our home had that “Anywhere USA look” and was perfect for commercials.
I showed it to my husband and even though it had references we could contact, he was skeptical. I on the other hand (glass half full type of gal) called the references and was told the scout was a veteran in the industry and completely legitimate. Long story short, that was the first of over 40 commercials and catalog shoots we have hosted in our home.Not only was our home a beautiful place to raise our children, and hang our hat, it was a money maker!
There was so much detail and decision making that went into this home. Nothing was overlooked. I still walk through the house and notice the way sunlight streams through a window at a certain time of the day, or a detail that went unnoticed that is now catching my eye. We never took this home for granted. It was an amazing gift to live here. Almost like being a good steward so we could pass it along to another growing family.
Our children are grown and gone, and now we have found another SWD home to hang our hat. A little smaller and right sized for our lifestyle, but beautiful and detailed just the same. We can’t wait to start this next chapter in our SWD home.”
